Operations Manager
We move saunas around a city. It doesn’t
make sense. We do it anyway.
Our mission is to bring people together through community sauna sessions on the water. We started with one sauna in 2024. People loved it, so we added another. Two years in, we have 5 saunas across 4 locations, with 2 more on the way.
Our goal is to bring the magic of community sauna to more neighborhoods.
We’re looking for an excellent operator to run Bywater day-to-day, keep things running smoothly, and help us grow.

The Gig
1 - Build better operating systems.
Bywater has grown quickly and a bit chaotically. We need someone to bring order to it: building the systems for maintenance, inventory, safety, cleaning, and daily operations, and leading the team to implement said systems.
2 - Lead day-to-day operations.
Make sure sessions happen when and where they should, with the right people, equipment, supplies, and permits.
-Keep the armada running. Work with the team to track and manage maintenance, repairs, and improvements across our saunas, trucks, trailers, and equipment.
-Solve problems in the physical world. Some days you’ll stand in the rain figuring out why a sauna won’t get hot. Others, you’ll track down a very specific trailer part.
3 - Physical Infrastructure.
A lot of bodies come through the saunas! We need someone to proactively manage repairs to limit each sauna’s downtime.
Someone who’s good at fixing things and/or finding and managing the right specialists.
-Preventive maintenance. Create maintenance schedules for each sauna and work with the team to keep them on track: deep cleans, sanding, oiling benches, greasing cables, cleaning glass, replacing worn wood, fixing hinges, and more.
-Repairs and improvements. General contracting, carpentry, or mechanical skills are a plus, and / or the ability to manage specialists. Think new stoves, door repairs, broken glass, hooks, entrance steps, and whatever else needs doing.
4 - Leader on the Ground.
You’ll spend ample time at the beaches and warehouse, working alongside our team and with our community. You’ll learn the job, then train others: hiring, training, coaching, and keeping us operating at a high level.
-Hosting and driving. Learn both, then train new team members and help everyone get better at what they do.
-Create systems that make everyone’s jobs safer, smoother, and smarter. You’ll know the on-the-ground details and the bigger picture challenges to make life easier for our team and our people.
5 - Help Bywater Grow!
More sessions, new spots, more happy people : )
-Make us better. What keeps breaking? How do we prevent it? What wastes time? Find ways to make the operation safer, smoother, and more reliable.
-Execute our Growth. New pop-up sites, permanent locations, new neighborhoods, and eventually new cities. Growth brings a new set of operational challenges to solve.
The Commitment
1 - Days / Times
Bywater’s busiest times are the opposite of a Monday-to-Friday, 9-to-5 job: mornings, evenings, and especially weekends.
We’re open to discussing scheduling preferences, but regular weekend availability is essential.
2 - Holidays
We also operate on many winter holidays (except Christmas), so you should be able to work some holidays. We’ll coordinate schedules and time off as a team.
3 - Seasonality
Our busy season runs Fall through Spring.
October through March can involve 50–60 hour weeks.
April through September is more relaxed, typically 30–40 hours per week, with greater scheduling flexibility and more options to take time off.

A Bigger Opportunity
For someone who wants greater responsibility (ie - more commitment, more hours) and to more directly shape Bywater's future, there may be a path towards an Operating Partner position with an ownership stake in Bywater.
While this is our hope, it is not guaranteed. We’re looking for the right person, and an opportunity for equity would depend on fit, commitment, and the role they grow into.
